This policy explains what personal data is processed when you use the Starlight Weather website, why, and what rights you have. Short version: this site collects as little as possible. There are no ads, no tracking cookies, and no sale of data.
1. Who is responsible
Starlight Weather
Sara VRS
For further information, please get in touch by email:
starlightweather@fastmail.com
This person is the “data controller” under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — the one responsible for how your data is handled on this site.
2. What data is processed, and why
When you visit the site
The web host automatically records technical access data (such as your IP address, browser type, date and time of access, and the page requested) in server log files. This is needed to deliver the site securely and to detect abuse. Legal basis: legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The live site is hosted on Vercel; log files are kept only as long as Vercel retains them.
When you contact us
If you email starlightweather@fastmail.com — for example to request a forecast or another service — your email address, name (if given), and the contents of your message are processed to answer you and, where relevant, to prepare and carry out a contract. Legal basis: contract performance and pre-contractual steps (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) or legitimate interest in responding to enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Correspondence is kept as long as needed to handle your request and any legal retention periods that apply to business records.
Newsletter
If you join the mailing list, your email is processed so we can send episode notices and seasonal notes from Starlight Weather. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can unsubscribe by emailing starlightweather@fastmail.com. We do not sell this list.
External platforms
This site links to external services such as podcast apps, PayPal, Tempest, and app stores. Clicking those links takes you to platforms with their own privacy policies — we have no control over what they process. The podcast Under the Same Sky and the Cloudy app are distributed through those platforms; any data notice specific to Cloudy is provided with the app itself.
3. What is not happening
- No advertising or marketing cookies, and no analytics tracking.
- No sale or sharing of your data with third parties for their own purposes.
- No automated decision-making or profiling.
4. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can, at any time and free of charge:
- ask for a copy of the data held about you (access),
- have incorrect data corrected (rectification),
- have your data deleted (erasure),
- restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interest,
- receive your data in a portable format,
- withdraw any consent you have given, with effect for the future.
To exercise any of these rights, email starlightweather@fastmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority.
